Lleyton's personal 2013 resolutions

During Family Home Evening this week, we talked about New Year's Resolutions. We learned about goals and these steps:

1. Evaluate - decide what needs to be done. Make a list of the things you would like to know, qualities and abilities you would like to develop, and things you want to accomplish in your life.

2. Plan - what to do and when. Write down the goal and how you plan to reach it. A goal not written down is merely a wish!

3. Act on the plan. If you need help, ask someone to help you complete your goal.

4. Report on your progress and results. It helps to have accountability by sharing your goals with someone and reporting back to them. If your goal is confidential, share it with your Heavenly Father through prayer and report back to Him.

We had a great family discussion and came up with our Family Resolutions for 2013.

~ Daily family prayer
~ Daily family scripture study
~ Family exercise - we plan to run a 5k together later this year (yikes!)
~ Monthly service opportunities

I was so impressed with the goals my children came up with for our family and for themselves. I am, typically, not very good at keeping all of my New Year's resolutions. I tend to make a HUGE list of the things I want to accomplish and change without making a firm plan for any of the items. That is where I fail. When you fail to plan, you plan to fail - right?

So, we now have a written plan for all of our family resolutions! It feels great to be accomplishing things together, as a family.
